While the oldest crop of millennials have been slow to check into the housing market, a new study from Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate suggests today's teenagers are eager to jump in. In survey findings released Monday, Better Homes and Gardens found that the current generation of teenagers—dubbed Generation Z—already values homeownership as the cornerstone of the American Dream, with 82 percent of teens surveyed saying it is the most important factor. Looking to their future, 97 percent of those surveyed said they believe they will own a home, and 61 percent said they have already begun saving money for homeownership and other future expenses.

Furthermore, when asked about their own interpretation of the American Dream, 89 percent of respondents between the ages of 13 and 17 cited homeownership, putting it above graduating from college, getting married, and having children. Despite their apparent financial caution, the survey showed most respondents are eager to move on their life goals quickly, with most aiming to own their first home by age 28—three years younger than the current median age of first-time homebuyers as estimated by the National Association of Realtors.

A new survey from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco finds investors aren't buying in to the central bank's projections of interest rate increases in the coming years. In a study published Monday, analysts for the San Francisco Fed say their model, which is based on investor activity, forecasts a federal funds rate of 0.075 percent at the end of 2015 and 2.13 percent the following year. In their latest economic projections from June, the members of the Federal Open Market Committee projected a median federal funds rate of 1 percent at year-end 2015 and 2 and a half percent at the end of 2016. The San Francisco Fed's report comes one week before the FOMC announces its next economic policy move—and before Fed Chair Janet Yellen is scheduled to give her own hints at the central bank's timeline.
