Elizabeth Warren is moving closer to confirming her 2012 Senate bid. The controversial professor-turned-politico took formal, exploratory actions in Massachusetts recently, indicating that Warren's rumored plans to run for office are more than speculation.
[IMAGE]Officially developing an exploratory campaign committee, Warren has also initiated a donation website, elizabethforma.com, and she seems to be the likely liberal candidate vying to unseat Republican Sen. Scott Brown next November.
Warren previously rose to notoriety while assisting President Obama in setting up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), though her anticipated appointment as head of the CFPB was thwarted when GOP members of the U.S. Senate vowed to block her ascension to the position.
Despite Warren's highly contested political standing within both parties, Democrats still feel confident in her potential Senatorial run in Massachusetts.
[COLUMN_BREAK]One left-leaning organization, Emily's List, has already realeased a statement supporting Warren's bid, with its president Stephanie Schriock, saying, ""The EMILY's List community has been telling me loud and clear that they want Elizabeth Warren in the race to beat Scott Brown,"" said Emily's List president Stephanie Schriock. ""Elizabeth is strong, smart, and a dedicated fighter for working Americans.""
Devoted to supporting the election of female, pro-choice Democratic political candidates, Emily's List is a valuable asset for Warren, but it will take major contributions from numerous organizations to match the estimated $10 million in funding that Brown has already recruited.
Warren has been on a so-called ""listening tour"" of Massachusetts during recent weeks in an effort to counter the fact that she has no previous experience in an elected office.
Responding to Warren's possible Senate run, the ""National Republican Senatorial Committee"":http://www.nrsc.org/ released a statement, saying, ""As a native of Oklahoma, the anointed candidate of the Washington establishment, and someone who has spent many years ensconced in the hallways of Harvard, it's a good idea for Professor Warren to learn more about her adopted state of Massachusetts as she prepares to compete in a crowded Democrat primary,"" said NRSC spokesman Brian Walsh.
However, not all individuals that oppose Warren are so tactful, and Web site MassGOP.com recently released its thoughts, calling Warren ""A Militant Liberal,"" while referencing her off-color rhetoric and controversial moves recorded during her time as CFPB advisor.
