Fannie Mae’s gross mortgage portfolio continued its rapid contraction in October by expanding for the seventh consecutive month in October and the eighth time in 10 months year-to-date in 2015, according to Fannie Mae's October 2015 Monthly Volume Summary.

Fannie Mae's gross mortgage portfolio declined at a compound annualized rate of 19.1 in August, marking the sixth time in the last seven months that the portfolio has contracted at the rate of at least 13 percent, according to Fannie Mae's August 2015 Monthly Volume Summary released Wednesday.

While not as substantial as June's increase, Freddie Mac's total mortgage portfolio still expanded in July, this time at a compound annualized rate of 0.8 percent, according to Freddie Mac's July 2015 Monthly Volume Summary released on Wednesday.

Freddie Mac's total mortgage portfolio expanded at an annualized rate of 0.9 percent in March, the sixth time in the past seven months the portfolio has expanded, while the serious delinquency rate on single-family loans fell to its lowest level in six and a half years, according to Freddie Mac's March 2015 Monthly Volume Summary released on Monday.

According to Freddie's monthly volume summary, released Monday, the company's total portfolio ended November at an estimated $1.9 trillion, up an annualized 0.4 percent. Year-to-date, the portfolio's growth rate is an average -0.7 percent, the result of six straight months of declines through the year's first half and an additional month of contraction in August.
