The Week Ahead: Gauging Home Price Trends

The S&P CoreLogic Case Shiller Home Price Indices [1] (HPI) releasing on Tuesday, August 28, at 9 a.m. EST will give insights into these questions. The HPI measures U.S. residential real estate prices, tracking changes in the value of residential real estate both nationally as well as in 20 metropolitan regions. The HPI releasing this week will gauge home prices for the month of June.

Data for May released last month revealed that home prices continued their rise across the country over the last 12 months. Nationally, the data reported a 6.4 percent annual gain in May, remaining the same as in the previous month. The 10-City Composite annual increase came in at 6.1 percent, down from 6.4 percent in the previous month. The 20-City Composite posted a 6.5 percent year-over-year gain, down from 6.7 percent in the previous month.
