Freddie Mac [2] has hired Daniel Gardner as the company’s Single Family VP of Affordable Lending and Access to Credit. Gardner, who the company says is a “long time champion of affordable lending in the mortgage finance industry,” will officially join on March 30 of this year.

“We are excited that Danny is joining us,” said David Lowman, EVP of Single Family Business, in a press release. “He has more than twenty years of experience making home financing affordable and sustainable for low-and moderate-income borrowers across the country.”

Gardner has held leadership positions at the National Community Stabilization Trust [3] (NCST) and the affordable lending operation at some of the nation’s leading mortgage lenders. This is experience is why Freddie Mac believes Gardner will bring significant experience and a great depth of knowledge to the role.

“Danny also has well established relationships with many of our customers as well as the non-profit organizations dedicated to affordable lending,” said Lowman. "I am confident Danny's knowledge, executive abilities and long dedication to affordable homeownership will create new opportunities for our customers and Freddie Mac to serve the nation's borrowers."

At Freddie Mac, Gardner will be responsible for the company’s efforts to responsibly increase the availability of affordable mortgage credit for low and moderate income borrowers and underserved communities. Before joining Freddie Mac, Gardner worked for Capital One [4] as the VP for Community Reinvestment Act Business Development and Multicultural Lending. He had held that position since 2013.

Gardner was the COO of the NCST from 2009 to 2013. The NCST is a non-profit organization who works with Freddie Mac and other national financial institutions to stabilize local communities by turning foreclosed homes into new homeownership opportunities for eligible low and moderate income families. Before working for the NCST, Gardner spent 13 years in progressive management roles at CitiMortgage Inc. [5] and was the company’s SVP and National Director for Strategic Markets between 2006 and 2008.
