Invictus Capital Partners Hires Managing Director and Co-Head of Investments

The CEO of Invictus Capital Partners, Michael W. Warden, recently announced that Carl D. Bell, CFA, has been hired at the firm as a managing director and co-head of investments. Invictus is an employee-owned institutional alternative asset manager founded in 2008 that focuses on opportunistic credit strategies.

Bell holds an MBA from The Fuqua School of Business, Duke University where he was a Fuqua Scholar and received the James G. Hanes Scholarship. He earned a BS in Mathematics at Carnegie Mellon University

As the firm’s co-head of investments, Bell will focus on the analysis and management of credit assets identified from the full spectrum of consumer, real estate, and corporate obligations.

“We’re very excited to have Carl joining the Invictus investment team,” Warden said. “With more than two decades of institutional investment management experience, we’re confident he will be a tremendous asset to the Firm and our clients. Hiring Carl represents another key step in our plan to substantially increase our resources targeted at bringing the most attractive private debt opportunities to our clients.”

Bell has managed fixed income investments for 24 years and developed substantial sector expertise in the area of structured credit instruments, including high yield and distressed real estate credit, according the release. He has focused specifically on opportunities related to U.S. housing and the broader shift in credit formation away from the traditional banking system since 2008.

Prior to his new position, Bell was deputy CIO and head of securitized credit for Amundi Smith Breeden from 2013 to 2015, the release said. He was also co-Founder of Five Ten Capital, an investment management firm focused on deploying debt and equity capital into the single-family rental sector from 2011 to 2013. Bell also served as managing director and team leader for structured credit at Putnam Investments and director of research at Smith Breeden Associates.
