SunTrust Going Worldwide with United Way

""SunTrust Banks, Inc.,"":https://www.suntrust.com/portal/server.pt is going global with ""United Way Worldwide."":http://liveunited.org/content/splash Recently named as a Global Corporate Leadership partner for the philanthropic organization, SunTrust has committed a $2.88 million gift from its SunTrust Foundation to the cause.

Additionally, SunTrust already contributed $8.4 million during 2010, $4 million of which was pledged by the company's employees, and logged more than 100,000 volunteer hours with United Way via SunTrust's Solid Gives Back initiative.

Untited Way's Global Corporate Leadership (GCL) program includes a select number of Fortune 500 companies, and the efforts of the GCL target positive changes in communities through the 1,200 United Way locations throughout the country. SunTrust and other GCL members will be charged with meeting annual giving benchmarks and promoting volunteerism efforts.

SunTrust aims to up its United Way volunteer hours to 125,000 this year, and William H. Rogers, Jr., SunTrust's president and CEO said of the partnership, ""Helping build strong communities is a fundamental part of our rich history. Expanding our commitment to United Way as a Global Corporate Leader is a powerful expression of our mission - to help people and institutions prosper - and allows us to continue supporting positive, sustainable change that will have direct impact today and benefit future generations.""

United Way also commented on SunTrust's GCL partnership; Brian Gallagher, United Way's president and CEO, noted, ""SunTrust has been an important, longstanding partner of United Way in communities throughout the country. Their tremendous generosity is matched by their willingness to volunteer and play an active role in creating community solutions.""

""We're grateful for their ongoing leadership and greatly appreciate their commitment to building on our work together and creating an even more robust partnership,"" he said.

Atlanta, Georgia-based SunTrust has a national banking and lending presence including consumer, commercial, corporate, and institutional practices, while United Way boasts a network of 40 countries around the globe in addition to thousands of local chapters in the U.S.
