Many housing companies and landlords across the country can and do require a background check as part of the application process, along with the traditional credit check, but the unverified or inaccurate information contained in them usually hurts renters first.

Following the CFPB’s calls for 12 different RFIs last year, one mortgage industry group released an entire new “roadmap for the future” of the regulator.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Thursday published the first in a new series of monthly reports that highlight key trends found in the complaints the consumers submit to the Bureau. The monthly reports will provide the public and the marketplace with insight into the hundreds of thousands of complaints the CFPB receives from consumers on financial products and services.
