Home Prices Not Coming Down Anytime Soon

A HPI Forecast shows low mortgage rates and increased home prices are on the horizon. The data for April 2017 was released Tuesday showing home prices up both in year-over-year and month-over-month. Increased buying activity was paired with low mortgage rates, which were at their lowest since November 2016.

High Rate of Performing Loans Spells a Healthy Market

According to a new report, both 30-day delinquencies and 90-day delinquencies are down over the year, and foreclosure inventory has dropped. Only 5 percent of mortgages are 30 or more days delinquent, a dip from February 2016’s 5.5 percent. Loans 90 or more days delinquent are down too, falling from 2.8 percent to 2.2 percent year over year. The number of homes currently at some stage of the foreclosure process dropped from 1.1 percent to 0.8 percent.

The Week Ahead: A Look at the Rising Prices

The S&P Corelogic Case-Shiller HPI covers 20 metropolitan areas across the U.S., and is released on the last Tuesday of every month. The previous HPI, covering January 2017, showed home prices at a 31-month high. During January, home prices were up 5.9 percent year-over-year and 5.7 percent month-over-month.
