Home price growth continued in September on an annual basis, while monthly returns have stagnated, CoreLogic reported Tuesday. Including distressed sales, the company's Home Price Index (HPI) increased 5.6 percent in September compared to the year prior, bringing the index's yearly growth streak to 31 straight months.

Mortgage Fraud Risk Continues to Climb

CoreLogic's latest Mortgage Fraud Report, released Tuesday, shows a 3.2 percent year-over-year increase in fraud risk among mortgages in the United States in the second quarter of 2014, as measured by the company's Mortgage Application Fraud Risk Index. The report also showed that in Q2 2014, mortgage applications representing approximately $3.3 billion in mortgage debt contained elements of fraud or serious misrepresentation.

All-Cash Home Sales Recede to Six-Year Low

According to transaction data from CoreLogic, home sales transacted entirely in cash accounted for 32.9 percent of total home sales in July, down from 35.9 percent in July 2013. It was the lowest cash sales share since August 2008. As of July, all-cash sales were still well above their pre-crisis average of 25 percent as traditional mortgage buyers still find it difficult to get a foot into the market.

Home Price Appreciation Continues to Lose Steam in August

Including distressed sales, home prices nationwide rose 6.4 percent year-over-year in August, according to the latest report from CoreLogic. The increase marks 30 straight months of year-over-year price growth nationally. August's increase came in below July's rate of appreciation, which clocked in at 7.4 percent in CoreLogic's initial report for the month.

Underwater Rate Down in Q2 as Home Equity Rises $1T

Property information firm CoreLogic reported that nearly 946,000 homes returned to positive equity in the second quarter, meaning the mortgage holders owe less on their loan than the property's worth. With the most recent quarterly increase, CoreLogic estimates the total number of mortgaged homes with equity across the country has surpassed 44 million.

Cash Sales Share Down to One-Third in June

The all-cash share of home sales dropped in June to its lowest level since the start of the financial crisis, CoreLogic reported Tuesday. In a post for the company's Insights Blog, senior economist Molly Boesel revealed that cash sales accounted for 33 percent of total transactions in June, down from 36.3 percent a year ago and the lowest share since September 2008.

Annual Home Price Growth Slows to 7.4%

CoreLogic's Home Price Index (HPI) rose 1.2 percent from June to July, the company reported, lifting slightly from June's 1.0 percent monthly gain. The improvement includes both distressed and non-distressed sales. Compared to a year prior, July's index was up 7.4 percent, barely down from 7.5 percent in June. As of the July report, the national HPI has risen year-over-year for 29 straight months.

Cash Sales Share Hits 4-Year Low

Home sales transacted in cash slipped again in May, falling to a four-year low but remaining elevated compared to the long-run average. According to sales data put together by CoreLogic, cash sales made up 34.4 percent of total home sales in May, down from 37.4 percent a year prior. It was the lowest share since May 2010, when all-cash sales started ramping up to an eventual peak of 46.2 percent in January 2011.
