Home Prices Expected to Rise Over Next Two Years

Shrinking inventory and shifts in sales composition have provided a foothold for housing prices to start climbing, according to Fiserv, Inc. The company released its Case-Shiller Home Price Insights Monday, showing that after six years of decline, home prices are finally starting to stabilize. Prices increased in 40 percent of the surveyed 384 metro areas in the first quarter of 2012, and the report showed that it's actually cheaper to buy than rent in many U.S. markets. Single-family home prices increased in 151 out of 384 metro areas in the first quarter of the year.

In opposition to the recently recorded declines, the Fiserv Case-Shiller Indexes predicts stable numbers around the country by 2012. Notable stats from the 380 markets that the survey examined include a forecasted rise in housing affordability to pre-crisis levels and an increase in home pricing strength near the start of 2012. The Fiserv Case-Shiller Home Price Insights, available now, indicate that housing affordability could rise, since current pricing is about 5 percent above data from 2000.

Fiserv's online, real-time servicing solution consolidates borrower information for banks, credit unions, and investors. The company says by pooling all of Dollar Bank's consumer loans onto one servicing platform, the lender can realize additional cost savings and better serve its customers at the same time.
