The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the availability of new funding from President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda, making HUD-assisted multifamily housing more energy efficient by cutting greenhouse gas emissions and improving climate resiliency.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the commencement of Fair Housing Month 2023, honoring the 55th anniversary of the signing of the Fair Housing Act, as well as modern efforts to advance equity in housing and protect fair housing rights.

“This proposed rule is a major step towards fulfilling the law's full promise and advancing our legal, ethical, and moral charge to provide equitable access to opportunity for all,” said Marcia L. Fudge, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

HUD has announced that Secretary Marcia Fudge and Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman will participate in service projects to honor Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr., and discuss how modern-day housing issues intersect with the civil rights legacy he helped inspire.

“HUD is committed to making the appraisal process fair nationwide. We must eliminate bias in home valuations so that everyone can equally reap the benefit of wealth—and intergenerational wealth—that come along with homeownership,” said HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge.

HUD funding granted to three awardees will assess the impact of the Emergency Rental Assistance program on people and communities, with a focus on housing stability and eviction outcomes.

New data from HUD revealed an 11% drop in Veteran homelessness from 2020, the largest decline in 5 years, representing an overall 55% reduction in Veterans experiencing homelessness since 2010.

Approximately $113 million will be invested to help HUD-assisted families increase earned income and improve financial stability, as the Bridging the Wealth Gap agenda will expand HUD’s work to help renters achieve financial well-being and homeownership.
