Interest Rates Fall in March

According to the Federal Housing Administration on Thursday, interest rates on conventional purchase-money mortgages decreased nationally from February to March. As interest rates dropped, prices have been on the rise, as shown in the FHFA’s last House Price Index for February, which released on Tuesday. House prices rose an average of 6.4 percent that month year-over -year, and up 0.6 percent month-over-month.

The Week in Mortgage Rates

This week, Freddie Mac, The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), and the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) released reports on the state of the mortgage rates. According to Freddie Mac, mortgage rates are still in a decline. The 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell nine basis points this week, another week-over-week decline. But despite the fluctuations in rates, new home sales still managed to exceed expectations jumping 6.1 percent in February to 592,000.
