Credit unions performed extremely well in the fourth quarter of 2015, with the highest share growth since 2009, strongest loan growth in 10 years, and the highest rate of member growth in 30 years.

The total amount recovered from litigation against banks that sold toxic residential mortgage-backed securities to corporate credit unions has now reached $2.2 billion with two recently announced pending settlements, according to an announcement from the National Credit Union Association, chief regulator for credit unions in the United States.

The number of federally insured credit unions dropped in the second quarter, but the National Credit Union Administration reported Thursday that total loan growth was positive. Total loans at federally insured credit unions reached $745.2 billion in the second quarter of 2015, an increase of 3.2 percent from the previous quarter and 10.6 percent from last year.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a report on cybersecurity last week highlighting that banks and other depository regulators need better data analytics and depository institutions want more usable threat information. The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) & the National Credit Union Association (NCUA) both responded to the GAO's recommendation on vendor authority.
