Existing-Home Sales Rebound from Late-Summer Decline

Total existing-home sales, including single-family homes, townhouses, condominiums, and co-ops, inched up 2.4 percent in September to a seasonally adjusted rate of 5.17 million, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported Tuesday. While September's sales rate marks a 2014 high, transaction volume remained down 1.7 percent compared to last September's annual sales rate of 5.26 million units.

NAR Urges Cordray Not to Cut Out Mini-Correspondents

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) recently sent a letter to the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) urging the agency to adopt a cautious approach as it puts greater scrutiny on brokers operating under the "mini-correspondent" lender model. The letter comes months after the bureau signaled it will be watching out for brokers trying to skirt its compensation rules by operating the same way under a different label.

Northeast, Midwest Metros Top List of Hottest Millennial Markets

In a report earlier this week, online listings site Realtor.com observed a largely steady trend line in housing market indicators in August, with prices leveling out from month to month and limited inventory dipping slightly. Demand was most evident among the country's millennial population. However, with relatively few homes on the market, prices pushing upward, and lending standards still tight, few in that group have been able to make the jump to homeownership.

Pending Home Sales Retreat in August

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported a 1.0 percent decline in its Pending Home Sales Index for August. The drop brings the index down to 104.7, its second highest reading so far this year. The drop in the pending sales measure came in the same month that the association reported a dip in existing-home sales.

Report: Low Appraisals Not at Fault for Slow Housing Recovery

As home values have made a rapid ascent in the past few years, those on the sales side point to lagging appraisal models as a major hurdle to finalizing transactions. In a newly released report, however, FNC maintains that despite anecdotal reports, "there is no strong evidence that low appraisal valuations contributed to mortgages falling through."

Existing-Home Sales Fall as Investors Retreat

According to transaction data from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), existing-home sales last month were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.05 million, a decrease of 1.8 percent from July's sales pace of 5.14 million and a drop of 5.3 percent compared to last year. The group's chief economist, Lawrence Yun, pinned August's slower pace to a decline in all-cash purchases made by investors.

Pending Home Sales Recover After June Drop

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported Thursday a 3.3 percent monthly increase in its Pending Home Sales Index for July, putting the index at 105.9. With July's increase, the index has now risen for four of the last five readings, seeing a slight retreat in June. NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun said sales activity benefited from increasingly favorable conditions for buyers in the housing market.

Existing-Home Sales Hit 2014 High

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported on Thursday that sales of existing homes (including single-family houses, townhomes, condominiums, and co-ops) hit a seasonally adjusted annual pace of 5.15 million last month, up 2.4 percent from a downwardly revised June. Looking only at single-family homes, July sales improved 2.7 percent month-over-month to a seasonally adjusted pace of 4.45 million but still fell 4.2 percent short of last year.

Price Gains Stay on Slow Track in June Index

According to the latest Residential Price Index report from FNC, home prices are still on the way up, just not at the pace they used to be. FNC found that despite continued signs of leveling off in home price appreciation, U.S. home prices were up another 0.8 percent from May to June and 2.3 percent throughout the second quarter. Meanwhile, year-over-year growth is decelerating as expected.

Home Price Moderation Continues in Second Quarter

According to a quarterly report from the National Association of Realtors, median existing single-family home prices increased in 71 percent of measured markets last quarter, with 122 out of 173 metros posting annual increases from Q2 2013. Nineteen of those areas reported double-digit increases. Those numbers reflected a slowdown from the first quarter, when prices rose in 74 percent of metros, and 37 areas saw gains higher than 10 percent.
