S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller reported a deceleration in home prices nationwide, with markets in the western portion of the country reporting the most notable waning of home price growth.

S&P CoreLogic Case Shiller reports that despite a 20.4% annual gain in April 2022, home prices in the U.S. were down slightly from 20.6% recorded the previous month.

Up slightly from January’s total of 19.1%, home prices in the month of February continued to accelerate, recording a 19.8% annual gain.

All 20 cities gauged by the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller Index saw price increases in January 2022, with prices in 16 cities accelerating relative to December’s report.

More than half of the 20 markets reported by S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller experienced increased price growth in November, particularly in the nation’s warmer markets.

Both purchase apps and refinances showed declines this week, as first-time homebuyers are being “squeezed” out of the market as a result of short supply and high prices.

Buyer demand, coupled with a lack of inventory, continues to apply pressure on home prices—which are predicted to remain at double-digit increases through Q3.
