The Department recognizes federal, city, and county partners in the House America addressing homelessness and the affordable housing in the Emerald City.

The maximum loan limits for FHA forward mortgages will rise in 3,222 U.S. counties next year, while in just 12 counties, loan limits will remain unchanged.

As housing availability scales up and down, new data from 2021 Rental Housing Finance Survey found that nearly 50% of rental units are in properties with four or fewer units. Meanwhile, an estimated 86% of all rental properties contain only one rental unit.

In a letter to HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge, the Chair of the Housing Financial Services Committee said the supply of the nation’s affordable housing should be a top priority.

“I’m so proud of FHA’s work to make homeownership possible for our nation’s underserved households and communities,” said Federal Housing Commissioner Julia R. Gordon.

“The ability to find affordable housing in the current market is seen as a major challenge facing those transitioning from active duty,” said Stacy Walker, Director, Housing & Community Outreach for Freddie Mac.

The House Financial Services Committee will host a hybrid hearing focused on poverty in the nation’s colonias, discussing their housing and community development needs and challenges in these communities.

The Department of Housing & Urban Development encouraged aspiring buyers to “stay ready” during the virtual event and also launched a dedicated webpage to connect people to pathways to homeownership.

HUD funding granted to three awardees will assess the impact of the Emergency Rental Assistance program on people and communities, with a focus on housing stability and eviction outcomes.

New data from HUD revealed an 11% drop in Veteran homelessness from 2020, the largest decline in 5 years, representing an overall 55% reduction in Veterans experiencing homelessness since 2010.
