The Week Ahead: Checking in on Existing Home Sales

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) will release its monthly Existing Home Sales Report for January on Wednesday, February 21, at 10 a.m. EST. The report highlights national and regional existing-home sales price and volume statistics along with data on a year-over-year basis for existing single-family homes, condominiums and co-ops.

The previous report, released in January, gave data from December 2017 and showed that while existing-home sales were down during the month of the report, they had edged up 1.1 percent year over year, recording the best year for sales in 11 years. According to the report, the median existing-home price for all housing types in December was $246,800, up 5.8 percent from December 2016 ($233,300). December’s price increase marked the 70th straight month of year-over-year gains.
