A new Veterans United Home Loans survey revealed that high home prices are among the top reasons that impact the decision to buy a new home among service members and Veterans. However, many remain optimistic about homebuying in 2023 despite ongoing affordability challenges.

“Today’s affluent homebuyers are motivated to pay in cash because the surge in mortgage rates makes them want to avoid loans—and the high monthly interest payments that come with them—altogether,” said Redfin Economics Research Lead Chen Zhao.

As demand continues to rise, January marked the most competitive month on record, with more than 30% of homes selling above list price last year.
