"The U.S. housing market continued to strengthen in April 2023," says Craig J. Lazzara, Managing Director at S&P DJI. "Home prices peaked in June 2022, declined until January 2023, and then began to recover.

“The National Composite, which had declined for seven consecutive months, rose a modest 0.2% in February, and now stands 4.9% below its June 2022 peak,” said Craig J. Lazzara, Managing Director at S&P Dow Jones.

As fixed-rate mortgages crawl to the 6%-mark, mortgage application volume did rise slightly for the third consecutive week, but refinance volume trended in the opposite direction, falling 80% year-over-year.

S&P CoreLogic Case Shiller reports that despite a 20.4% annual gain in April 2022, home prices in the U.S. were down slightly from 20.6% recorded the previous month.
