New home sales in April shot up to their highest level since 2008 despite tight inventory. Can they keep it up in May? HUD and Census Bureau will release the results on Thursday.

According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) recent press release, existing-home sales declined in April in all major regions except for the Midwest, but remained above an annual sales pace of five million for the second straight month.

Housing market trends kept their spring momentum in July—and are expected to remain solid in the months ahead, Realtor.com said Wednesday in its National Housing Trend Report for the month. For the first time since the start of the housing recovery in 2012, Realtor.com says the end of the annual peak buying season passed this year without any outside economic influences creeping in.
